Psychiatrists are licensed medical doctors who completed at least four additional years of specialized training after medical school to become experts in mental health, which includes both psychotherapy and the use of medication. Because psychiatrists are physicians, we will first address any physical health issues that could be causing mental health issues such as thyroid or vitamin deficiency. Psychiatrists are the only experts qualified to determine if there is a role for psychotropic medication in the treatment of mental health issues. All clients meet with a psychiatrist at least once and if regular care is recommended typically about once a month.
