Dr. Robert Simons is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist who is passionate about helping individuals navigate life's challenges with compassion, curiosity, and collaboration. Growing up in the Detroit metropolitan area, he developed an early fascination with science, medicine, and understanding the ways people think, feel, and connect with others. Those interests ultimately led him to pursue a career in psychiatry, where he found the unique opportunity to combine medical knowledge with meaningful human relationships.

Dr. Simons earned his Doctor of Medicine from Central Michigan University College of Medicine before completing his Psychiatry Residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he served as Chief Resident. He went on to complete specialized fellowship training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, gaining extensive experience caring for individuals facing cancer and other complex medical conditions. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Simons believes that the foundation of excellent psychiatric care is a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, open communication, and mutual respect. He strives to create a warm, welcoming environment where clients feel heard, understood, and comfortable sharing their experiences. Recognizing that every person's story is unique, he views treatment as a collaborative process and works closely with each client to develop individualized plans that align with their goals, values, and circumstances.

His approach is comprehensive and evidence-based, thoughtfully integrating psychotherapy and practical strategies to support emotional well-being and lasting change. Dr. Simons incorporates principles from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), supportive psychotherapy, and meaning-centered approaches to help individuals navigate anxiety, depression, life transitions, chronic illness, caregiver stress, and questions surrounding identity and purpose. His specialized training reinforced his belief that mental and physical health are deeply interconnected and that caring for the whole person is essential to meaningful healing.

What continues to inspire Dr. Simons is the opportunity to get to know each person's unique story and help them rediscover hope, resilience, and confidence during difficult periods of life. He values the privilege of walking alongside his clients as they work toward greater well-being and believes that lasting change is most possible when care is personalized, collaborative, and rooted in genuine human connection.

Throughout his training and career, Dr. Simons has had the opportunity to care for individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and medical backgrounds. These experiences continue to shape his thoughtful, compassionate, and individualized approach to care.

Seeking support can feel like a significant step, whether it is your first experience with treatment or a return to care after time away. Dr. Simons understands the courage that process can require and is committed to making each person's experience as comfortable and collaborative as possible. He believes in taking the time to truly understand each individual's circumstances, explaining options clearly, and making decisions together every step of the way.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Simons enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, exploring new restaurants, traveling, and following Detroit sports. He also enjoys staying active and believes that nurturing meaningful relationships, pursuing personal interests, and maintaining balance outside of work are important components of overall well-being.
