Shantonia McClellan is a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who provides compassionate, individualized, and evidence-based care. Resilient, approachable, and down-to-earth, Shantonia strives to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves, asking questions, and openly discussing their experiences. She believes meaningful mental health care begins with genuine human connection and understanding each person beyond a diagnosis or list of symptoms.

Shantonia grew up in the inner city of Detroit, Michigan, where her experiences helped shape her resilience, empathy, and appreciation for the many factors that influence mental and emotional well-being. Navigating personal challenges, including family dynamics and social anxiety, gave her an understanding of how relationships, environments, and life experiences can affect the way people feel and navigate the world. Growing up among people from diverse backgrounds also reinforced her belief in meeting others where they are and approaching every individual with compassion and respect.

Shantonia began her nursing education at Everest Institute, where she completed her Practical Nursing program and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She continued her education at Hondros College of Nursing, earning her Associate Degree in Nursing and becoming a Registered Nurse. She later earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University before returning to complete a post-master's specialty certificate in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner studies. She subsequently earned national board certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Throughout her nursing career, Shantonia discovered that some of the most meaningful moments in healthcare came from taking the time to listen, educate, and help people feel supported. Her natural curiosity and love of learning strengthened her interest in understanding not only what individuals are experiencing, but also why those experiences may be occurring. Psychiatry offered her the opportunity to combine clinical knowledge, education, and genuine human connection in a way that felt both professionally fulfilling and personally meaningful.

Shantonia's approach to care is collaborative, individualized, and patient-centered. She believes that every person brings a unique combination of experiences, challenges, strengths, and goals, and that effective care should reflect those differences. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, she considers the whole person, including lifestyle, relationships, stressors, coping strategies, and other factors that may influence mental health.

She incorporates evidence-based practices, psychoeducation, supportive strategies, and principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) when appropriate. Education and shared decision-making are especially important to Shantonia. She wants clients to understand their experiences, ask questions, and feel actively involved in their care. Her goal is to help individuals develop practical skills, recognize their strengths, and work toward meaningful, realistic, and sustainable improvements in their overall well-being.

What continues to inspire Shantonia is the opportunity to make a positive difference in someone's life, even through seemingly small interactions. She finds it especially rewarding to see clients regain confidence, accomplish personal goals, and begin to feel better in their everyday lives. She believes that clients do not need to have everything figured out before seeking support and hopes to create a space where they can explore challenges and discover a path forward together.

Outside of work, Shantonia enjoys spending quality time with her daughter, staying active through strength training, cycling, and walking, and finding opportunities to relax and recharge. She also enjoys traveling, discovering new restaurants and cafés, watching movies and favorite shows, and taking on home projects. Above all, she values creating meaningful memories with her daughter and maintaining a healthy balance between an active lifestyle and quieter moments at home.
