Dr. Valerie McCray is a Clinical Psychologist with a deep passion for helping individuals transform their lives, often by confronting what has been worn down, neglected, or buried beneath years of distress. Known for her practicality, resilience, and warmth, Dr. McCray brings both clinical expertise and a deep sense of purpose to her work, empowering clients to reclaim their dignity and chart a new course forward.
A proud graduate of the University of Michigan, Dr. McCray completed her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in Ann Arbor. She first entered the workforce as a flight attendant, where she naturally found herself offering support, de-escalating conflict, and helping others through personal challenges. After a pivotal moment with her colleagues—who recognized her true calling—she shifted her career path toward psychology, determined to make a difference through therapeutic work.
Dr. McCray’s treatment approach is integrative and tailored to the individual. She is trained in both cognitive-behavioral therapy and psychodynamic modalities, with an understanding of the subconscious influences that shape our beliefs and behaviors. This flexibility allows her to meet clients where they are, offering thoughtful and effective strategies to support growth and healing.
She believes therapy is, at its core, a fight for human dignity. Her clients can expect a judgment-free space where their experiences are honored and their goals actively supported. Dr. McCray is known for her practical optimism, intellectual curiosity, and unwavering commitment to helping others thrive—even in the face of significant adversity.
When not working, Dr. McCray restores historic homes, drawn to the challenge of bringing forgotten structures back to life. For her, this passion mirrors her work as a psychologist—reviving what was once overlooked, and helping it become something stronger, more beautiful, and full of purpose.
