Catherine Landrum is a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who is committed to providing compassionate, culturally responsive, and individualized mental health care. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Catherine grew up in a close-knit family with a strong tradition of service, caregiving, and community. She comes from a long line of caregivers, including family members who served their communities as midwives. Their dedication to helping others had a lasting influence on her and helped shape her desire to pursue a career centered on healing.
Catherine’s interest in healthcare began at a young age. Fascinated by medicine and the art of healing, she volunteered as a candy striper at the former Midway Hospital in Los Angeles. That early experience gave her a firsthand look at healthcare and reinforced her desire to support people through illness and difficult circumstances. Throughout her nursing career, Catherine became increasingly interested in the connection between mental health and overall well-being. She saw how deeply mental health challenges could affect a person’s physical health, relationships, work, daily functioning, and quality of life.
Catherine earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University, Dominguez Hills and her Master of Science in Nursing, specializing as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, from Azusa Pacific University. She later earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Touro University Nevada and became nationally certified as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Her doctoral education included advanced preparation in evidence-based practice, healthcare leadership, quality improvement, population health, and patient-centered care. Her scholarly work focused on implementing a cultural competence toolkit in an outpatient mental health setting, strengthening her commitment to accessible and culturally responsive care.
Catherine believes effective mental health care begins with listening, building trust, and seeing the person behind the diagnosis. She creates a welcoming, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment where clients can feel comfortable discussing their experiences. Compassionate, patient, thoughtful, and thorough, Catherine takes the time to understand each client’s history, culture, relationships, strengths, concerns, and goals.
Her approach is collaborative and grounded in evidence-based care. She believes clients should be active participants in their treatment and understand the options available to them. Catherine incorporates principles of cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, supportive therapy, shared decision-making, and trauma-informed care into her work. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, she partners with each client to develop a realistic and individualized plan that reflects their needs, values, and life circumstances.
Catherine understands that seeking mental health support can feel vulnerable. Her goal is to help make the experience as comfortable and supportive as possible so clients leave their visits feeling heard, understood, and respected. She works with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, trauma-related concerns, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders, substance use concerns, and other mental health challenges.
What keeps Catherine passionate about her work is seeing clients move from feeling overwhelmed or discouraged to feeling more hopeful, confident, and capable. She values the trust clients place in her and finds it rewarding to help them recognize their strengths, develop useful coping tools, improve their functioning, and feel more like themselves again.
Outside of work, Catherine enjoys reading, watching movies, traveling, discovering new cultures, and trying new foods. She also enjoys attending professional conferences and educational events, reflecting her commitment to lifelong learning. Most importantly, she treasures spending time with her son, Ryan, and creating memories with her family.
