Joanna Schechner is a licensed clinical psychologist who is passionate about helping individuals create healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives. Compassionate, authentic, and approachable, Dr. Schechner believes that therapy should be a collaborative process where clients feel safe, supported, and empowered to grow at their own pace.
Dr. Schechner earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Spanish from Florida State University before completing both her Master’s degree in Psychology and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Florida Institute of Technology. She is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She has also received extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and other evidence-based therapeutic approaches. In addition, she is currently pursuing a post-doctoral Master’s degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology and is working toward board certification in obesity treatment.
Born in Poland and raised in Florida, Dr. Schechner understands the challenges that can come with navigating different cultures, finding a sense of belonging, and overcoming adversity. Her own experiences sparked an early interest in psychology and inspired her desire to help others discover their strengths, build resilience, and create meaningful change in their lives.
Dr. Schechner works with clients based on their unique needs, goals, and readiness for change. She takes an eclectic and individualized approach to treatment, drawing from a variety of therapeutic techniques to create a plan that feels comfortable and effective for each person. She encourages open communication and believes that therapy works best when clients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in the process.
Throughout her career, Dr. Schechner has worked with individuals facing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, eating disorders, substance use, personality disorders, and other mental health challenges. She finds the field deeply rewarding and remains motivated by the moments when clients gain insight, develop new skills, and realize they are stronger and more capable than they once believed.
Outside of her clinical practice, Dr. Schechner enjoys reading, traveling, learning languages, and spending time with family and friends. She loves ice skating, arts and crafts, and exploring new cities and cultures. Whether she is working on a crochet project, building an artistic LEGO set, or enjoying time with her beloved pets, she values creativity, curiosity, and lifelong learning.
