Dr. Khushbu Shah, MD, is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist with specialized training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Growing up with a passion for helping others, Dr. Shah has dedicated her career to fostering the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of her patients through an integrative, holistic approach to mental health.
Dr. Shah earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Psychology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where she developed a deep understanding of the complexities of human behavior and mental health. She then pursued her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at the American University of Antigua & Barbuda, graduating magna cum laude. Following her medical degree, Dr. Shah completed her residency in General Psychiatry at Richmond University Medical Center in Staten Island, New York, where she gained extensive experience working with a wide range of mental health conditions, including mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, attention deficit hyperactive disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and learning disorders.
To further specialize in her field, Dr. Shah completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. Here, she honed her skills in providing innovative, evidence-based treatments for young patients and worked closely with school-based mental health programs. Her integrative psychiatry fellowship further enhanced her ability to offer comprehensive evaluations and treatments that consider the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.
Dr. Shah’s approach to psychiatry is best described as “East meets West,” where she blends traditional Western medical practices with Eastern philosophies that emphasize nutrition, exercise, lifestyle, sleep, mindfulness, stress reduction, coping skills, and social connections. She believes in the power of this holistic approach to help her clients achieve optimal mental health and well-being.
What sets Dr. Shah apart is her commitment to authenticity, levity, and balance in her therapeutic relationships. She strives to create a safe and supportive environment where her clients can explore their challenges and work towards personal growth. Dr. Shah’s greatest goal is to help others develop into healthy and whole individuals, embracing life’s journey with confidence and resilience.
Dr. Shah’s dedication to her work is deeply rooted in her belief that every individual has the potential to achieve greatness. As a mother of two, she understands the aspirations of parents to see their children grow into better versions of themselves—mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. This personal connection drives her commitment to helping today’s youth experience their maximum potential by providing them with the right tools through a holistic mind-body approach.
Before embarking on her journey as a Psychiatrist, Dr. Shah volunteered in a teaching institute as a researcher, worked as a tutor for school and college students, and was actively involved in a first-aid squad as a fundraiser. These experiences deepened her desire to make a lasting impact on people’s lives, leading her to pursue a career in psychiatry—a decision she has never looked back on.
When she isn’t working, Dr. Shah enjoys spending time with her family, walking, practicing vinyasa yoga and pilates, and embracing the joys of life’s simple pleasures. Her well-rounded interests and commitment to her own well-being further enhance her ability to connect with her patients and guide them on their journey to mental health and wellness.
